Last Thursday I wrote about a poetry class on “how to listen to a rock” at the Centrum Writers’ Conference last summer in Port Townsend, Washington.  Going over that poem reminded me of another poetry workshop I took.  This class was on the topic of “write a poem about a secret or a lie.”

Although I wrote a few different poems in this workshop, this is the one I liked best.  It’s called, “Can You Keep a Secret?”

CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET?
Under an umbrella
  the sky burned blue
    with white clouds
the day you said it.
The secret goes into a
  bluegrass man's fiddle
and comes out a song
it blows into the
  ear of a sudden line
    of poetry
and then it is done.
