Burning brightness

Statue of LibertyIt was always the fire in the torch that inspired him.

It was a flame.  A flame of passion, of integrity, of tolerance.

The torch held high, high over her head reminded him of the need for light everywhere, light shining into dark places, illuminating the needs of the small people.

Author note:  Today was a long travel day for me.  With only a short time at the end of the day to respond to today’s prompt, I wrote this small sliver of a character sketch.  I chose an image looking over Liberty’s shoulder, since this less-common way to view the statue intrigued me.
