Mario and Felipe climbed for a long time before they reached the top of the book stack.
Moby Dick, A Tale of Two Cities, The House of the Seven Gables were all behind them by the time they reached the summit.
“It’s got to be here somewhere,” Mario said.
Felipe was busy looking for the secret opening. “I don’t see it,” he said. “I think the librarians were lying.”
“Librarians never lie,” Mario said. “Don’t you know anything?”
It was Mario who found the secret opening. It was between Kafka’s The Metamorphosis and Paine’s The Age of Reason.
Vulgar, irreverent, but effective, the secret opening took them to the next stop in the time travel journey they’d embarked on a few months before.
